H2. What Is Glazing Powder?
Glazing powder is a transparent, thermosetting melamine-formaldehyde resin compound (also called melamine glazing compound, MGC) supplied as fine, free-flowing powder (D50 ≈ 30 µm). After curing it forms a hard, crystal-clear, non-porous layer with:
  • Gloss > 95 GU (60°)
  • Pencil hardness ≥ 6 H
  • Water absorption < 0.1 % in 24 hlatest company news about Glazing Powder for Melamine Tableware – Complete Application Guide for Manufacturers 1

H2. Step-by-Step Application Workflow
  1. Substrate Preparation
    • Ensure melamine substrate is fully cured and cooled to < 50 °C.
    • Remove dust with antistatic air knife; static < 0.5 kV.
  2. Glaze Powder Dosing
    • Target weight = 6–8 g dm⁻² for gloss layer; use loss-in-weight feeder (±0.05 g accuracy).
    • Pre-warm powder to 40 °C to reduce moisture pick-up.
  3. Even Distribution
    • Sprinkle or electrostatic spray (60 kV) to achieve uniform coverage.
    • Jolt table (200 strokes min⁻¹, 5 s) to level powder.
  4. Mould Closure & Curing
    • Temperature: 160 °C (platen)
    • Pressure: 25 MPa
    • Time: 18–25 s for 0.12 mm layer (DSC DoC ≥ 95 %)
  5. Degassing (Optional)
    • Same principle as substrate: 0.3 s pressure release at 50 % cure time to eliminate micro-bubbles.
  6. Cool & Eject
    • Cool to < 60 °C under pressure; demould without sticking.
    • Edge trimming and UV inspection for pinholes.
