Product Description

This product description refers to Melamine Moulding Compound (MMC), specifically a high-purity version used to create "imitation porcelain" or Melamine tableware.

Because it is 99.9% pure and "food grade," it is designed to meet strict safety standards for items that come into contact with food, such as plates, bowls, and trays.

Key Product Characteristics
  • Composition: Primarily composed of melamine-formaldehyde resin reinforced with alpha-cellulose.

  • Appearance: Fine white powder (can be pigmented, but "white" is the base for high-end imitation porcelain).

  • Heat Resistance: Designed to withstand high temperatures typically found in dishwashers and hot food service (usually up to 120°C or 248°F).

  • Durability: Offers high surface hardness, making it scratch-resistant and shatter-proof compared to real ceramic.

Technical Specifications (Typical)
Property Description
Purity 99.9% Melamine Resin Base
Form Fine Powder / Granular
Moulding Temperature 160°C – 180°C
Curing Time 30 – 60 seconds (depending on thickness)
Safety Certifications Food Grade (FDA, EU, or SGS compliant)

Manufacturing Process: "Imitation Porcelain"

The "Imitation Porcelain" look is achieved through a compression moulding process. The powder is placed into a heated mold, where it undergoes a chemical cross-linking reaction (curing) to become a hard, thermoset plastic.

  1. Pre-heating: The powder is often compressed into "biscuits" and pre-heated.

  2. Compression: The material is placed in a high-pressure hydraulic press.

  3. Decal Application: For patterned dishes, a printed foil is added during the moulding cycle.

  4. Glazing: A "glazing powder" (pure melamine resin) is added at the final stage to give it the shiny, ceramic-like finish.

Critical Safety Note

While "food grade" melamine is safe for serving food, it is not microwave-safe. High-frequency microwave radiation can cause the material to overheat and decompose, potentially releasing chemicals into the food. It is strictly intended for serving, not cooking.
